Walking pads have become the most popular home cardio machine in the UAE, mainly because they fit apartments. A walking pad is a slim, motorised belt without the tall handrails and console of a treadmill. You walk on it while you work, watch TV or take calls, then slide it under the sofa or bed.
This guide explains when a walking pad is the right choice, what to check before you buy, and which models we have in stock in October 2026, with prices.
Walking pad or treadmill?
| Walking pad | Treadmill | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Walking, desk walking, light jogging on 2-in-1 models | Running, incline walking, family use |
| Top speed | About 6 km/h on basic models, up to 10 to 13 km/h on 2-in-1 models | Usually 16 km/h or more |
| Storage | Slides under a bed, sofa or desk | Many home models fold upright |
| Price at FitEmirates | From about AED 750 | From about AED 1,150 |
Choose a walking pad if you mainly walk, live in an apartment or want to move while you work. Choose a treadmill if you want to run, train on an incline or share the machine with family members who run. Our treadmill buying guide covers those.
What to check before you buy
- Speed range. Basic walking pads stop at about 6 km/h. If you want to jog, pick a 2-in-1 model or one rated to 10 km/h or more.
- Motor. Brushless and DC motors run quietly, which matters in apartments. Peak horsepower figures look big, so compare models of the same type.
- Maximum user weight. Most walking pads carry 100 to 120 kg. Leave a margin of 10 to 20 kg above your own weight.
- Belt size. A belt around 40 cm wide and 100 cm or longer feels comfortable for walking.
- Floor and noise. A rubber mat under the machine protects tiles and cuts vibration for the neighbours below.
- Remote or app. Most walking pads run from a remote control. A display or app helps if you track distance and calories.

FAQs
Can I run on a walking pad?
Basic walking pads are for walking only. 2-in-1 models and pads rated to 10 km/h or more allow light jogging. For regular running, a treadmill is the better choice.
Can I use a walking pad under a standing desk?
Yes, that is what many people buy them for. Keep the speed low, around 2 to 4 km/h, so you can still type and talk comfortably.
Is a walking pad too loud for an apartment?
Most walking pads use quiet brushless or DC motors. A rubber mat underneath reduces vibration through the floor.
